3am Playlist #18: Razorblades In Apples

EEK! IT'S HALLOWE'EN!...well, almost.

It's definitely that time of year, and I know I've been dressing up for events since Monday (Lurleen from The Simpsons, and the girl in THIS video for Then & Now).

Now there are a whole bunch of shows coming up for Halloween weekend, which I'll detail below, but if you just want to get into the Hallowe'en spirit, or need playlist for your pumpkin carving party or werewolf bar mitzvah, then you're in luck. 3am Playlist #17: Then & Now IV

In less than a week we'll be at the Wise Hall for the 4th annual THEN & NOW show - a fundraiser for Megaphone Magazine!

Not only will we hear songs (one old & one new) from nine amazing artists, but there will be door prizes, and a photobooth! We're asking you all to dress up according to the #1 song on the day you were born, which you can find out by clicking HERE!

3am Playlist #16: From Which I Came

Derek Kehler (known by his musical alias Steel Audrey) passed away on June 8, 2015 before being able to release his album 'From Which I Came'. His friends and musical colleagues have banded together to release the record in his honour on October 18th at St James Hall.

Bands/musicians performing include: The Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer, The Lion, The Bear, The Fox, Just a Season, Adrian Glynn, Nat Jay, Savvie, The Reckoners, Christie Rose, Johnny 99, Kathleen Nisbet, Matthew Mei, Matt Ellis, and John Pippus.

Today's playlist features most of these artists and the man himself. Be sure to head to St James Hall this Sunday for a very special and emotional night of music and remembering. Tickets available here.

3am Playlist #15: Cover Up For The Planet

JP Maurice has put together an awesome show that will take place next week on October 7th - Vancouver bands covering Vancouver bands!

The show will benefit Creatively United for the Planet, a "not-for-profit society dedicated to empowering communities and individuals to take better care of the Earth".

The list of musicians performing is impressive, and we asked JP to pick some songs by the bands that will be covered. You'll still have to guess which songs will actually be performed the night-of, as the playlist is just a warm up on the sounds of the night.

Performers include: Head Of the Herd, The Matinee, Bestie, Savvie, Jasper Sloan Yip, The Wild Romantics, Goodwood Atoms, Mindil Beach and others, covering songs by Mother Mother, Yukon Blonde, Gay Nineties, Said The Whale, Black Mountain, Bend Sinister and more!

3am Playlist #14: One Final Peak

It's the last year of the Peak Performance Project in BC, and tonight is the first of four final showcases.

After seven years, a WHOLE LOT of money handed out, and hundreds of musicians, this chapter in the Vancouver/BC Music scene will come to a close.

Instead of being sad, we're going to party for the next four Thursday nights at Fortune Sound Club with this year's Top 12 - most of which you can hear in this week's playlist, by clicking the image above.

3am Playlist #13: Riff Raff

Uhhh, no... not THAT Riff Raff (actually if I'm linking to anything it should be this amazing scene from Orphan Black).............. It's RIFFLANDIA!

The annual festival is once again here, with four days of music, (both at outdoor and indoor venues), in the beautiful city of Victoria.

Running today (Sept 17) to Sunday, hundreds of artists from BC, Canada, and abroad will descend on the city. With the added bonus of Break Out West and the WCMA's taking place at the same time, the festival has so many acts to chose from, it's impossible to get to them all.

We've chosen to highlight some of the main acts performing during the day at Royal Athletic Park, and a few others coming in from across Canada, in this week's playlist, which you can hear by clicking the image above, or RIGHT HERE.

Okay, I'm not sure what is going on in Vancouver, but Saturday September 12th is a VERY popular night for shows, I currently have SEVEN in my schedule. Now, I think my record for attending shows in one night is four, but that was when I was younger and had more time and energy.

So I'm going to lay out what is up this Saturday, and you click that image above to listen to some of the tunes by the artists performing. We're all over the map genre wise, so you have your pick!

3am Playlist #11: Breaking, Out West!

The 2015 editions of Break Out West and the Western Canadian Music Awards, taking place in Victoria, BC, are only 2 weeks away.

The festival is running in conjunction with Rifflandia, and the awards will take place on Sunday Sept 20th. If you're a band and want to attend the conference, or anyone that wants to go to the award show, make sure you register and/or get your tickets ASAP!

For this week's playlist we put together a collection of songs from both WCMA nominated artists and those performing at either Break Out West or the awards show. Quite a mix, so click the photo above to hear and enjoy.
