3am Mixtapes: Episode Eight: Songelgängers

Hey look, it's another episode of 3am Revelations' very own podcast!

Each week on 3am Mixtapes, I will present to you, in my dulcet tones, the Top Six Songs of a certain subject. The topics can be as broad and vague like Best Duosor they can be as obscure and specific as Best Septets.

This week, we take a look at the strange phenomenon where two musicians, completely independent of each other, come up with songs that happen to have the exact same name. And I don't mean song titles like "Home" or "Run" or "Tonight", but ones that are a little less common. So here it is, your Top Six Doppelgänger Songs, or Songelgängers!

Featured on this week's podcast is:

"Pledge of Allegiance" by Matthew Good
"Pledge of Allegiance" by Louis XIV
"Phantom Limb" by The Shins
"Phantom Limb" by Wide Mouth Mason
"Loveless" by Said the Whale
"Loveless" by Matt Mays

Any questions or comments or waffles or criticisms or suggestions for future themes are welcome!

3am Mixtapes: Episode One: First Tracks

These are the people who saw an overcrowded marketplace and said, "Me too!"

That's right. 3am Revelations once again has its very own podcast!

Each week on 3am Mixtapes, I will present to you, in my dulcet tones, the Top Six Songs of a certain subject. The topics can be as broad and vague and Best Summer Songs or Best Songs Featuring a Banjo,
or they can be as obscure and specific as Best Songs To Drive To At Dusk or Best Songs Featuring a Theremin.

The first week, I thought what better place to start than with the beginning. Top Six Opening Tracks. The first songs on an album. The ones that catch your attention and make you want to keep listening.

Featured on this weeks podcast is:

"Giant" by Matthew Good Band
"Like Eating Glass" by Bloc Party
"Nobody Moves Nobody Gets Hurt" by We Are Scientists
"Your Ex-Lover is Dead" by Stars
"New Goodbye" by Hey Rosetta!
"Fight Test" by The Flaming Lips

Any questions or comments or criticisms or suggestions for future themes are welcome!

Musical Roots: Matthew Good Band

Regular readers (all nine of you) may know I am currently schooling at BCIT, in the Radio Broadcast program. In our second, and final, year we take over the station Evolution1079*. At the station we are given rotating jobs every week, and a couple weeks ago I was tasked with Musical Roots; a 45 minute 'Ongoing History Of New Music' type program, where we take a close look at a particular topic. Because these ran at 11pm on a week when our streaming was down, and because I put a lot of work into these (wrote, voiced, produced... did everything myself) I would like to share it with you, fine reader, as a podcast.

This is the second of four episodes, which will released on a [hopefully] weekly basis in the next month. This one is a look at the history of the Matthew Good Band. Matt Good is probably my favourite musician, so this was especially fun to do. The feature is in three 15 minute segments, and that is how I present them to you. In streaming or downloadable options.

I hope you enjoy it, and I would very much welcome any sort of feedback you may have (positive or negative), either commented here or through the emails at: 3amRevelations [at] gmail [dot] com.

*If you enjoy this blog and do not know of this station, I suggest you give it a listen. We play a lot of awesome music, and I don't just say this because I am the current music director.

random top six

Time for another Random Top 6 list! Here's the deal: every week whenever I feel like it, I will choose a random category and select the top 6 songs fitting that criteria.
Yipes, it's been a while since I've done one. As I might have possibly mentioned here before, my favouritest musician in the history of ever is Matthew Good. And he has a new album coming out ON TUESDAY! so I have been excited and in Matt Good Mode for the last few days. To celebrate that, and to celebrate the fact that one of my favourite albums of all time, Beautiful Midnight, came out TEN YEARS (and a couple weeks) AGO, I have put together a top six consisting of some of my favourite Matthew Good (Band) songs. Not my definitive top six... I don't think I could ever pick that. But these are some of my favourites.
